Continental-Sponsored Autonomous Vehicle from Carnegie Mellon Wins ...
VICTORVILLE, Calif., Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Carnegie Mellon University's Tartan Racing Team, sponsored by Continental Automotive Systems, won the 2007 Defense Advance Research Project Agency (DARPA) Urban Challenge and the $2 million first place prize in the autonomous vehicle competition, held at the former George Air Force Base November 3 in Victorville, CA. The 2007 Urban Challenge represents the first time that autonomous (driverless) vehicles traversed suburban roads at speed with real traffic represented by 50 moving sedans with human drivers and the 11 race finalists in robot-on-robot competition. The autonomous vehicles in the DARPA Urban Challenge were required to navigate, park, and handle traffic on a 60-mile urban course within a six-hour time limit. Trustees advised of potential grant money
Seneca County Emergency Management Agency is to search for grants to help fund the project. Also, the township was informed by the county engineer's office TR 1201 needs to be renamed as TR 1203. The trustees passed a resolution requesting the Ohio Department of Transportation install signs identifying the boundaries of the township. ODOT officials have suggested seven locations on state highways. The state is to cover the cost and installation of the signs. Trustees also request Bascom residents inform them when streetlights are not operating. . More>>

What do an aircraft manufacturer and a credit union have in common? One has received the coveted Malcolm Baldrige Quality Award and the other is pursuing it.
The aircraft company is Boeing. The credit union is Altura Credit Union of Riverside. Both are players in the recent Northern California regional meeting of the California Council on Excellence in Napa.
The California council is the statewide Baldrige award organization, and the annual gathering in Northern California drew 140 participants to the Meritage Resort at Napa.
The North Bay Regional Council for Excellence was among the organizers headed by Chairwoman Karen Widmer, who is with Queen of the Valley Hospital in Napa.
Several North Bay companies and organizations working their way through the regional and statewide awards hope to someday be among the Baldrige winners announced annually in November by the President of the United States. More>>
