This was observed by managing director and CEO of DaimlerChrysler- India Wilfred Aulbur at a prize distribution function for school children here yesterday and on the occasion of an initiative for road safety by the automobile company.

He said there was a greater need for road safety awareness among the children. He also said vehicle engines should be designed in a way that they are clean and environment- friendly.

The State Transport Commissioner Chandra Prakash Singh, speaking on the occasion, said road engineers, entrusted with designing the East Coast Road (ECR), had failed to give greater stress on safety and this had led to a large number of accidents on the stretch. More>>

Hunsanger, of Lapeer, schlepped a honking big racing tire into the auto show on Friday and had it autographed by Indy Car Series drivers Bryan Herta, Marco Andretti and Tony Kanaan. All three were in Detroit for "Racing Day" activities at the North American International Auto Show, at Cobo Center. The show ends at 7 p.m. Sunday.

After the three drivers signed, Hunsanger and his wife, Kathy, toted the tire away like it was a gift from the racing gods.
